Wipe Out

We left one very important video off of our post from our lake trip. Here it is. Oh, and Mike is the one on the right (in case you were wondering)!

Frosting Face turns One!

Michael had a wonderful birthday. He was very happy, which was a pleasant surprise, since he's been feeling a little sick/or teething (pretty much our excuse for all grumpiness).

Both Adelyn and Michael enjoyed helping with the cake, oh, I mean, both cakes (added baking soda instead of baking powder on attempt #1).

Michael took a few dips into the frosting and made a mess as he enjoyed our traditional "dig in!" cake ceremony, but enjoyed the spaghetti meal just as much. He may not have inherited the sweet tooth, or maybe those ones just haven't grown in yet...

Once There was a Snowman

In the sun he melted...

melted... (But Adelyn thought sticks might make him look tall again)

melted...

And we had a VERY sad girl once the snow was gone. She sat on the wet stairs and pouted because I wouldn't help her make a snowman. I told her there was only a little snow. And she said, "then can't we make a little snowman?" I guess that is what is so exciting about the first snow!!

WWRRARHH!!!

Adelyn's Camping Face:

Rained Out!!

We had a fun weekend Thursday/Friday at Lake Mead for a family water skiing trip. We had a great time, even though we got rained out for Saturday's adventure. We love being closer to all our family to be able to plan fun trips every now and then. Adelyn sure enjoys being with cousins, and we couldn't think of better friends for her to have.

Home on a Range?

Just the other day, not long before dinner-time we heard quite a ruckus outside. It sounded like a bunch of cows walking through our front yard. And it was... almost. They were bringing the cows down from their grazing places up the canyon and just missed our house by a block and a half. Adelyn was a little concerned that they were at playing at "her" park, but they weren't there long. Just enough for a quick walk over and a snapshot.

Fishing Utah style (by Mike)

During the course of the summer, the UT Crocketts have taken many trips to the lake to try our hand at fishing. We've walked away dejected and empty handed every time...until the fateful day of 10/7/2006.

Alissa and Adelyn both had some pretty impressive catches, but the award for the day goes to Alissa for catching a beautiful 21" 3 lbs. rainbow trout. The only trout I remember seeing that was that big was Don's at Emerald Lake. Adelyn caught the first fish of the day with a pretty small spinning reel. Her first catch was decent, probaby a 15 incher. We were there for about 3 hours and caught about 10 fish. Two of them were shorter than 12", but the rest were above the 15" mark. We all did pretty good for the day (except for the 3 fish we took home). We would be glad to take any visitors to our "special fishing hole." Really we just got lucky picking out a spot. We didn't even think it looked that great until Adelyn caught the first before we could even bait the other hooks.

The LAST, FINAL, Harvest

Alissa asked me (Mike) to do a post, so I get to give my version of the final garden picking. We apparently let some of our zucchinni grow for a few days too long, because we later found three that were about the size of a half-rack of beef. These things were huge. We couldn't think of anything to do with such huge squashes that would be of a benefit to mankind in general, so we decided to hold the first annual Parowan Regatta - Zuchinni style. Alissa, Adelyn, and I took to designing and creating our own schooners and took them to the duck pond for the big race. Adelyn's squash boat went the distance and she won first prize (mostly because her boat wasn't carved so we chucked it as far into the pond as we could). I couldn't help but hope that my galleon would catch up as the wind caught the sails, but both mine and Alissa's ships did more of a u-turn than sail a straight course to victory. Maybe we'll install a keel next year. Also included are a few of the pumpkins we harvested. We had pumpkins growing in places where we didn't even know pumpkins could grow. I think the count was 15...just in time for All Hallow's Eve. To be sure that we don't need to do any more garden maintenance, we ripped out anything in the garden with even a tinge of green. I am already missing sandwiches made with our fresh-picked tomatoes.
