Michael's Big Birthday Bash: Year 2

We had a great day with Michael. He had fun opening presents but not so much wearing the famed birthday hat. He didn't pick out dinner so we chose chicken drumsticks, rice, grapes, and veggies with dip. Somehow I ended up with chicken wings (whoops! I didn't read the package, I guess it just looked like chicken parts).
We made the cake earlier in the week, so we only had to decorate today. I had every intention of letting the kids help decorate, especially by choosing and placing the cargo in the train cars, but when Michael found the green food coloring and it was all over the counter and his hands in a matter of seconds, I opted to let them watch a movie. It took me exactly 73 minutes to finish decorating (or however long "Curious George" is).
I know they would have enjoyed it more if they had helped more, but regardless, they still lit up with big eyes when they saw the bright cake. Michael was so excited to choose his train car, "Marshmallow!!" And Adelyn picked the car decorated like a present. My brother was eyeing the engine and finished lots more of it that I would have expected! It was a fun cake for me... hopefully Michael too... but at least me.

The Night Before Birthday!

and all through the house
the place smelled like cake
and T.P. on the boughs. Alissa and Adelyn
decorated away the night
while Mike went out visiting
then b-balling with might. Then when he got home
The cupboards were bare,
Alissa started a sugar day
All his treats became fair! Michael says he's turning three
though we've given him plenty of clues
to remind him that that he's
only turning two!

We thought we could, we thought we could...

We thought we could help Michael win a costume contest at the local "Fall Fest." We spent so much time working on it, that we were late and missed the judging. My favorite part was the hat I sewed. I got the idea from one of Michael's favorite books, "Barney's Hats." Poor Adelyn... we just threw together her costume as fast as we could that morning. We will be more dedicated on Halloween to make sure she REALLY looks like the princess that she is.

First Snow

This year the first snow wasn't big and didn't stay long. It's probably not even "officially" the first snow, but it was enough to make a couple snowballs. The first thing Adelyn wanted to do was throw snowballs at Skippy.
I think we all want to hurl a snowball or two at him. (Don't worry, we won't hurt him). He's been digging to China recently. I think he was secretly trying to bury evidence of the deck which he ripped to pieces.

"I'M GUILTY!!"

Tis the Season

Today we went to the local U-Pick Pumpkin Patch in conjunction with Adelyn's preschool. I took Michael too, although he would probably rather I didn't because he thought it was "yucky" and wouldn't hardly walk through the patch. He is proud of his pumpkin though, he just won't make the mistake of touching it again, the tops are a little prickly.I told Adelyn she could pick anything she could carry by herself (since it's pay by the pound and all). She chose the biggest pumpkin she could carry. Consequently, it got dropped several times on the way to the car, but must be a sturdy little fellow.

We Found Phil!

This post is dedicated to Ben and Anna. This is a picture of the kitty they rescued from the rain. We went visiting our neighborhood the other night and found that he had a cozy home and they'd named him Phil.
