The Light of His Life

After putting up some light fixtures in the house, Mike made Adelyn and I some necklaces out of the leftover chain. We had a lot leftover because Mike doesn't like to hit his head on light fixtures.

Primer Party

Since Mom babysat for us for the WHOLE DAY, we had a good chance to get "the best!" part of our house remodel done... the primering. When we talked to a smoke restoration company, they said the primer is the best thing to seal the odor in, and since that's the whole reason we're even remodeling... It was the best task to accomplish by far!

What did we primer yesterday?

Ceilings of 2 hallways/7 rooms
Floors of 2 bedrooms/hallway/stairway
Walls of 6 rooms/2 hallways

With the other premiering we've done off and on since we started, we've used every last gallon of primer we bought. A grand total of 15 gallons, 2 roller sponges, 2 rollers, 2 paint brushes, and 1 paint sprayer.

Days Just Blend Together

I've given up on a daily journal. All we really know is that the carpet guy is coming Wednesday, so we have a deadline.
Special thanks to Dad and Grandpa for putting in a dishwasher for me.
More pictures as it starts to look like something more than a construction zone.

Day 7,8,9: Mud

Mike decided to box in a few more ducts that were poking out here and there in closets. It'll look really nice when it's all done, so more drywall work, more mudding/taping. We got some kitchen doors primered, along with some more walls.
Kitchen Door Puzzle

Mike made a stamp to help him texture the ceilings.

We bought the kitchen/dining/entry flooring (laminate). There are so many little things here and there that get done. We feel like we've come a long way in one week!

Day of real rest

Sunday accounts for Day 6. We had a great time with Grandma and Grandpa and even got to go to our new ward for the first time. We felt really welcome and are excited to learn from this great group of people!

Takin' a good break

Day 5 was a break from one house, and work on another. Grandma and Grandpa made it home from their mission and we wanted the place to look nice before they made it home. We spent the day working here where we've been staying. It was a relief to be away from face masks and paint clothes.

Where a little skill can get you

Day 4 we had some professional help... Uncle Tyler and Aunt Becky. Thanks to their help we got all the duct work and drywall done! Becky brought a paint sprayer and went to town! We finished primering the kitchen, the front room and some stairs.

Day 3: Who needs sub-contactors?

Day 3 is the day that Mike decided he was going to do the duct work. We'd had two heating guys com over and no one would estimate it... two small of a job for a booming development area. One guy did get us a quote to texture ceilings... for way too much, so we're doing that on our own too.

Day 3 was more primering cabinets and at Home Depot shopping for duct material and drywall to box it all back in.

Day 2: Take out the carpet and the trash

Day two Mike was working and came to the house for a great surprise... the carpet was gone before he got there.

Started primering shelves and kitchen cabinets.

House Projects... What are we getting ourselves into?

We want to get a few pictures up of our house projects in progress. It would be too much to log the "man hours" that have already gone into the place, but we wanted to keep a journal for ourselves of the day to day tasks and improvements.

Day 1: sign on the house, got a better rate on the loan than we anticipated. Cool!
Got keys to the house and scraped ALL the popcorn ceilings
Took off kitchen cabinet doors
