Mommy of 3

When people ask how it is with THREE kids, I usually smile and say, "so fun!" and I mean it! When people ask if I've gone crazy, I say, "not yet!" But the other day, I maybe(?) proved myself wrong. After an hour of errands around town I realized I was wearing mismatched slippers. Then I realized... I was wearing SLIPPERS! On errands! Then I realized how much longer errands would take if I went home to change and how all three kids probably wouldn't last much longer, so I finished my errands content with mismatched slippers. Crazy?

Shopping Local

Some people have farmers markets, we have farmers. We couldn't be more thankful to the family who let us come out to their farm for some fresh soft white wheat. They gave the kids rides on the combine which Michael LOVED! When we pulled up to the farm, the first thing Michael said was, "tractors don't have keys, and I'm going to drive THAT!" pointing to the combine. I'm so smart to bring my camera. Here they are folks, harvesting some wheat for us... And I can't logically post about getting the wheat without throwing in a little useful knowledge. What else is a nutrition degree good for if I can't babble on every now and again?
Soft white wheat- my story about love at first taste. I love soft white wheat. I picked some up at the health food store after seeing it and hearing someone mention it. We ground some up and made some chocolate chip cookies. I couldn't taste whole wheat at all. So I next made sugar cookies. Not kidding... 100% whole wheat sugar cookies. I could taste a little wheat, but no one else could once we added frosting. I began experimenting with other foods and found that it worked awesome in pancakes, waffles, muffins, cookies... basically anything but bread.
Some people have negative feelings toward soft white wheat because #1, it doesn't make good bread and #2, it doesn't store as well as hard wheat (only 15-20 years rather than 30). My personal feeling after looking up the nutrition content (basically it is lower in protein and gluten and higher in carbohydrates and fiber) and using it in so many different recipes is this: "Wow! Using soft white wheat means I get all the good nutritive quality of whole wheat in my diet and I don't have to be limited to just bread! And according to my usage of soft white wheat vs. hard red/white wheat I'll use it more often, thereby rotating it quicker."

If I were the type of person who merely stored wheat in order to have an adequete supply in my food storage, I would not use soft white wheat. But, I'm not! I love to use wheat in regular cooking, so this is the best! (this is the end of the story)

Adventure

We were out searching for hidden treasure the other day and snapped a picture of the kids. They are both so different and so FUN when it comes to adventures. The picture says it all: Adelyn doesn't like pokeys, rocks, or hiking. Michael is all about the adventure and the journey. However, Adelyn loves to sign the log once we get there saying we found it. So, in the end, they're both excited to go looking again. And a round of applause for the happiest baby in the world. We love this little man!
