Arrivals!

I am Mike, the novice blogger.  I am posting pictures of the new Crockett babies - Nelson David and Braden Parker.  They are strappling young men who seem to take after their father.

Nelson tipped the scales at 6lbs 4 oz and Braden won out by 3 oz for a total of 6lbs 7oz.  They were 18.5 and 19"respectively.  Alissa is my hero.

Everything went perfect today.  Braden had been breech, but the doctor and nurses were able to get him spun around to be lined up for his grand journey to life.  Alissa is doing great and the babies are super duper!

Counting Down the Hours

Every day for about a month, I have wondered if that day would be the day our baby boys would come.  We are happy to have a set finish line/inducement date of this Monday.  I will be exactly 37 weeks and "full-term."

I am so excited to meet them.  Any guesses on how big these boys will be?  You should for sure win a great prize if you are the closest.

Here's some tips and hints from my perspective-
  • Our other babies have been between 7 and 8 lb. and have been born at 38-41 weeks.
  • Babycenter.com states the average baby to weigh 6 1/3 pounds at 37 weeks.
  • Ultrasounds can be up to a pound off in either direction.  Our ultrasound at 35 weeks stated Baby A to be 6 lb. 11 oz. and Baby B to be 6 lb. 8 oz.
  • Babycenter.com states that babies at this gestation gain an average of 1 oz. a day.
  • Baby A has always measured bigger than Baby B in ultrasounds.
  • At 35 weeks I had gained 35 pounds.  The nutritionist seemed to think there was a relationship with weight gained by mom and weight gained by babies.
  • Babycenter.com says if you start at a healthy weight, you should gain about 37-54 pounds with twins.
Here are some of my favorite big belly events from the last week here in St. George.
  • At church, someone who had been seated behind us in the meeting said "I just have to ask... how many babies to you have in there?"
  • My brother-in-law's friend called and asked if he could drop by with his wife.  It had been a while since they'd stopped by the house, so when Seth asked why, he said it was so he could show his wife how huge I was.  She didn't believe his description.
  • While we were out shopping, a little girl about 6 or 7 years old started walking backwards so she could stare at my belly longer.  She didn't notice me wave, because she was really only looking at my belly.
  • The man at Costco who said, "You're never going to get away with those watermelons under your jacket!"
  • My doctor, who walked into the room while I was flat on my back said, "You look like you're just holding a medicine ball.  You do know how big a medicine ball is, don't you?"
I hope our next post contains pictures.  I hope our next post contain pictures of two beautiful, healthy baby boys.

I've stepped away from my hospital for a moment

As of today, I have been away from the hospital for 3 days.  They won't let me leave town, because of how dilated I am, but thankfully, I am not in the hospital.

Before I left, they measured the babies to be 6lb 11oz and 6lb 8 oz.  I'm sure they're off, because I can't really believe they'd be that big at 35 weeks, but it does give me hope that we will have big healthy babies.  It's hard to explain how that feels after being in preterm labor and discussing the likelihood of being in the NICU for weeks and weeks with the babies, watching them struggle to eat and breathe.

At discharge, the doctor warned me I would be back in the next hour, the same night, or the next day.  Well we proved him wrong, didn't we?  He also said he would induce me at 36 wks 2 days (next Wednesday), and it sounds like he lied again because today he changed his mind to 37 weeks.  I'm okay with that, but why do they say those things?  I am so anxious to be home with my family.

So much good news to share!  First we thought we were going into early labor, and now labor couldn't happen soon enough.  (Don't worry though, it is pretty easy to stay on bedrest, it hurts too bad to walk).  I am in Leslie's home, instead of the hospital, and the babies continue to show signs of good health and growth.  I am on a new countdown... 11 more days at the most.  I can do this!

Edit: Baby B moves again

I don't know when or why it happened again, but Baby B is Breech.  Breech Baby B (BBB) will be awarded the "B" name we have picked out.

But, what I really want to say is that B stands for Blessed.  All the doctors are astounded I am still here, and the babies are still tucked up inside of me.  The doctor today mentioned that over 95% of women in my circumstance would have delivered by now.  I have never had any red flags with bloodwork (and believe me, they've taken a lot of blood) or vitals, and the babies have never had any sign of stress.  I am blessed to be a part of this miracle.  I feel certain that it is a result of the many, many prayers offered for me and the boys.  Thanks for all your faith and prayers.

The doctors assume we have saved each baby 3-4 weeks in the NICU by keeping me from delivering, and lots of possible long-term problems.  It really is a huge miracle.

And yes, until further notice I am STILL in the hospital.  They are hopeful I can leave to stay at my sister's soon, but at least for today, I think I'll be here.
