Hard Knocks

Some of the hardest knocks in life are shots. But for us, never so hard as these...

In order to be prepared for Kindergarten registration this week, we had to get Adelyn another round of shots. She was so brave. She watched them, and wimpered, but never cried. She got a princess PEZ dispenser for being such a brave girl.

Then it was Joey's turn. Here's the play-by-play:

First shot, he starts screaming his head off. Still one shot to go.
Adelyn trips/faints (we're still not sure) and lands on corner cabinet.
Nurse gives Joey other shot, tosses the needles somewhere in the room, and runs to get doctor.
I hold screaming baby while trying to wake up Adelyn, she's knocked out completely.
Doctor scoops up Adelyn and wakes her up. One nurse takes screaming baby from me, and another cleans up the needles so I can talk with Adelyn.
Adelyn still remembers her name, and how old she is so they stick on an ice pack and monitor her while we watch High School Musical.
Skip all planned errands and take her to Panda Express where she asks for a sandwich (we've been to Panda a million times, and she knows they don't sell sandwiches). I'm a little worried she's delusional, but it all turns out okay in the end.

Oh. It was so scary. I was so worried for much of the day. Her goose bump before the picture was much larger, but I wasn't thinking of pictures at that point. I guess everyone takes a turn at a hard knock every now and again. It will never get easy for me.

Delicate Work

So I must have ruined our fairly new Canon Camera somehow. Canon wouldn't cover the warranty because they think I dropped it. That was that. I bought a new camera (ouch!) and called it good.

Mike, on the other hand, scoured ebay for just the right broken camera and went to work taking out a billion screws and working around all the electrical parts. There were a lot of electrical parts. One specifically called the capacitor that could shock him(I guess kind of a lot). Not only did he not get shocked, but he fixed the camera! A fixed camera is worth a lot more than a broken one on ebay. But I don't think he'll be willing to give it up. It's pretty sentimental now. Here he is with the fixed camera! (he did put the front back on after some initial testing). It looks great and works like NEW!

Just another reason I'm so lucky.

Limerick University

(the real Limerick University)
For today's storytime, Mike and I wrote Limericks (named for a county in Ireland named Limerick, therefore "festive" enough for the holiday). We wrote enough for each of the kids we assumed would be there (we had a few extra generics, just in case someone new came). Kids sure light up when you use their names. I got lots of giggles today. Here are the ones we wrote for Adelyn and Michael.

Adelyn once was a girl
Who loved all day to do twirls
But when she got dizzy
Her eyes got real busy
And her hair raised up in curls

I knew a young boy named Michael
Who rode on a motorcycle
He forgot how to stop
And his tires went, POP!
That cycle he had to recycle

Write your own! Here's the rules (at least the way Kansas Univesity teaches it):

Limerick: Rhyming and syllable pattern:

A (7, 8 or 9 syllables*)
A (7, 8 or 9)
B (5 or 6)
B (5 or 6)
A (7, 8 or 9)

A's rhyme, and B's rhyme. If the first line is 7 syllables, the second and fifth lines require the same meter (seven syllables each, too); if the third line is 5, the fourth line must be 5, too.

Happy Cake Day to Us!

I celebrated my very own birthday on my birthday.
Joey celebrated his very own birthday on his birthday.
Together, we celebrated CAKE DAY!
I was very excited for a serving of chocolate CAKE!So was Joey! But then he tasted it...
He didn't like it. He wouldn't touch the frosting, so we decided to spoon feed him. He didn't like it any better. Oh well!

The fam brought over the Wii for some after-dinner entertainment but forgot their sensor bar. Can you tell what we used instead?

If not, check out this youtube video.

Oh Carole...

We were working on organizing our family files this week and ended up with lots and lots of throw-away CD's. Since I won't let Mike put them in the microwave, we ended up trying this instead. Thanks for the fun idea Carole!

Alissa's... and after Mike saw how much fun I was having, here is his...
