It started out with a little exercise.
Then some kite-building for a competition a few miles down the way. The kite building went great, we won 3 cash prizes! (maybe pictures to come if we decide to try and get it up in the air again, it really deserves a post of its own!).
Then we hit our local Del Taco to cash in some certificates the kids earned from the dentist. The kids even got balloons.
We drove down to Kolob (it was a free day in the National Parks), and took a great scenic drive, and a not-quick 1 mile hike with the kids. Even Joey walked most of the way. We saw lizards and cactus and... well, Kolob! It was beautiful.
We met some new friends from Germany, who were on their way home, and loaded us up with anything they couldn't take home with them on the plane... bottled water, pickles, cereal, Diet Coke, scissors, okay- not really scissors. The point of the post is this... we have been hoping for a summer of hiking, camping, exploring, and exciting Saturdays forever, but it always descends the "important" list for things like painting the house/remodeling bathrooms/refinishing more space/landscaping etc. We always manage to do tons of great stuff during the summers, but always have big projects to come home to. This year, we are going to not only manage lots of fun, but enjoy coming HOME. I feel like we've finally made a HOME here, and we're loving it! Welcome summer! (and on that note, it snowed this morning... huh?)

The not-quick 1 mile hike sounds like a lot of fun to me. I bet the kids loved it.
